Indigenous Hip-Hop artist NARLI is excited to announce the release of his debut 3 track EP ‘Midnight’, which will be released through Hydrofunk Records & MGM on Tuesday February 23, 2021.

Based in Byron Bay NARLI (Jannali Doncaster) is a founding member, Dancer, MC and Didgeridoo player with local 4-pieceIndigenoise, a clique of Indigenous poets, artists, producers, musicians and practitioners.

The ‘Midnight’ EP represents Narli’s first solo music after a number of strong collaborations including ‘Land’ which was produced by Hazy and co-created with fellow hip-hop force and close friend, JK-47.  The track landed Narli MTV’s First Nations artist of the month this February, which sees artists share music and stories across MTV channels as part of their Indigenous Artist Of The Moment series.

Recorded at Hydrofunk HQ the ‘Midnight’ EP was engineered by Dave Dogg Atkins (Resin Dogs, Wolfmother) and is the first in a series of artist development projects he will be releasing.  ‘Me An My Buddas’ and ‘Midnight’ are produced by Dave’s 17-year-old son, up and coming prodigy Moxia.  The companion clips for ‘Me An My Buddas’ and ‘Midnight’ were filmed in and around Byron Bay, with videography by Coedie McCarthy (Indigenoise, The Boy Of Many Colors).

The EP features the first single ‘Me An My Buddas’.  Narli says I firstly wrote the chorus for ‘Me An My Buddas’ and was going for a crew vibe.   I really wanted the listener to feel as if they were there amongst it all throughout the song.   I'm also letting people know that indigenous music is on the rise with a sort of staunch attitude to my verses.  So, end result is a playful bouncy song that also has a strength to it in its own right.’

The title track ‘Midnight’ elaborates on the fact that ‘I’m in touch with my old people and spirits, and they guide me to a place where I can speak for my people and culture.  Another track with a real message but it also has a fun playful vibe to it that makes you want to bop and jump around.’

When you listen to the third track on the EP ‘After Dark’, ‘You get a sense of dark but the melody and the beat brings you back to balance.   In this track I’m talking about how I'm ready to step up into bigger things in life, in music, in all aspects of my life.   It's me letting go to a lot of old yarns I was holding onto that were holding me back from my true self.’
